Once again Google has developed a great new tool for the world. They call it Google Wave, and it is currently still being developed but was recently demoed at Google I/O. This product will undoubtedly change the way we look at the internet by changing the way we communicate. It will also change the way teams and businesses callaborate through its unique design.
Simply put, Google Wave is email, wiki, blogging, and documents all mashed into one super communication tool on steroids. Through simple email type thinking, it allows you to respond to any part of an email and inserts your response. This allows for easy to follow threaded conversations. Google Wave is also fully dynamic, where people can see what you’re typing while you’re typing (only if they are the recipient of course). If desired, this feature can be disabled. Another cool extension allows messages to be translated on the fly. Say I want to send an email to someone in France. Wave has an extension that will automatically translate what I’m typing in English to French while I’m typing it, and the correspondant can see this happening on his screen.
One more feature I want to mention is the ability to embed “Waves” into a blog or website. If you embed a wave and then update it (add content or reply) either on the blog or through the wave interface, it will appear in both places almost instantaneously. I really can’t wait for this to happen because it’s going to revolutionize blog posting and blog comments. Imagine people commenting or perhaps asking a question on a blog and seeing that post instantly through wave email. You can then respond in a much shorter amount of time, providing streamlined assistance to everyone.
There are so many cool things about Google Wave it’s almost impossible to list them all and even harder to explain them. You have to see it for yourself. Check out Google’s Developer Preview below:
