So yesterday Walffle was down the entire day. I contacted my hosting company and they told me that Wordpress is very cpu intensive and that I must have too many plugins installed which are causing too many queries and spiking the process loads. I found this hard to believe as I hadn’t change any plugins or really anything else for at least two weeks. Now all of a sudden it doesn’t work? BS. I renamed my plugins folder like they suggested but no luck. I emailed them back but no response now.
Today I try and login to my Wordpress admin panel and it magically works again. At this opportunity I immediately removed all uneccesassry plugins, upgraded them all, upgraded Wordpress and installed some caching plugins, all to help keep server load to a minimum.
In conclusion, I find it hard to believe my site was even causing a problem. I just started this blog and I had maybe 15 plugins total and not a ton of traffic. Since I’m on shared hosting, I bet it was someone else eating up all the cpu usage and leaving me with next to none. There’s no reason it would be fine for 2 weeks, stop working for one day, and then be fine again. And to top it off I cannot tag my posts correctly since upgrading now.
EDIT: I’ve been dealing with the tagging issue all day but I just found the solution. If you have DB Cache enabled and are using Wordpress 2.8 then tagging won’t work correctly. Tags just don’t save. Disabling DB Cache solves the issue.
